Mother’s Day is approaching and many of us are trying to find the perfect gift for Mother’s Day.

What do you give someone who has given life to you? Who has raised you, loved you and cared for you?

Mothers out there will tell you that they don’t need a gift but the love and respect of their child is enough but we all know that a gift is a nice way to show your appreciation.

There is no perfect gift for all mothers. As each mother is unique in their own way it is impossible to cater for all tastes however here are a few tips on how to pick a great mother’s day gift.

For the mother who loves the home

Many will tell you that a gift that’s house related doesn’t count as a gift but ask a mother if she would like something to make her life easier and will giver her more free time to enjoy the things she loves then you’ll understand why the following gift ideas will be a hit.

Steam mop – yes it will not be easy to wrap but a steam mop will help mothers to clean their homes to a standard that they are used to as well as save them a lot of time.

Steam iron – again not an exciting present but if you have heard your mother complain about the time it takes to do the ironing then she’ll be thanking you for this gift.

For the mother who loves the kitchen

Now there are mothers out there who spend time in the kitchen because they have to but there are mothers out there who love to be in the kitchen. Whether it’s to cook or to experiment it gives them joy to cook.

Cook books – now there are different categories of cook books – those that are pretty to look at and those that are actually useful. Depending on your mother you’ll need to work out whether she needs inspiration or she actually wants a step by step instruction.

Kitchen appliances – most mothers will have the basic kitchen appliances but if your mother is a kitchen queen then getting her food processor, mixer, pressure cooker etc will make her life easier and yours yummier.

For the mother who loves the garden

No I’m not talking about getting gardening gloves but there is a resurgence in vegetable gardens. Households are growing their own vegetables and herbs and your mother will enjoy fresh fruit and vegetables.

Take the time to find out what your mother will like – vegetable, herbs, fruit trees etc and then you can build your own vegetable garden or get pre-made boxes to house your seedlings and plants.

For the mother who loves to shop

Mother’s love to shop. Whether it’s to get the grocery or buying herself something.

Gift vouchers are useful but can be a bit impersonal. If your mother has a favourite shop then a gift voucher or gift card from that shop can show that you did put a bit of thought into it.

For the mother who loves to be pampered

Give your mother a treat and send her to a massage or get her nails done.

There are plenty of places that offer gift voucher services so you don’t have to pick what treatment she will have but make sure you put enough that she can get something.

For the mother who loves adventures

There are plenty of places that offer ‘adventures’ but sometimes it’s better for you to add a personal touch. Take your mother rock climbing, kayaking, hiking, camping…the options are endless.

For the mother who likes to keep fit

It’s important to promote regular exercise especially when mothers will always do things for others and not for themselves.

If she has the time and the gym is nearby get her a pass to the local gym or community centre which offers yoga classes. Hire a personal trainer for your mother or buy her some equipment she can use at home such as weights or a yoga DVD. Help your mother keep fit and healthy and she’ll be around for many more Mother’s Days.

For the mother who has everything

Most mothers will tell you that the best gifts are those that come from the heart.

If you haven’t found a gift that’s perfect then why not make your own. Breakfast in bed, a special lunch or dinner, bake a cake, make a chores voucher book and do the laundry or clean whenever your mother asks you, wash the car…there are plenty of things that will take a little bit of time from you but won’t break the bank and they come from the heart.
